Your marketing mentor (and why):
I am very lucky to have had many people in my life that have stepped in to help guide me through my career. A great piece of advice just recently came to me from Henry V’s Managing Director, Katja Asaro. She said, “Opportunities don’t just fall in your lap, you have to go after what you want and create your own destiny.” I think of that everyday and try to push myself a little further toward my ultimate goals.
What you like most about being a marketer:
I enjoy working on creative pitches and developing proposals. They usually require a lot of time and energy but in the end the results are extremely rewarding.
What you like least about being a marketer:
Losing a bid for a project. There is so much time and creativity that goes into ever pitch. I get very attached to each project, so it’s hard not being able to see it through.
Marketing trend you are happy to see gone:
Dancing avatars on mortgage banner ads. I am not sure who is looking at these thinking “Hmm, seems like a legitimate company. I will apply now.”
Your favorite tag line:
I love tag lines that allow me to break out in song, so naturally “Mentos. The freshmaker!” comes to mind.
If you had to sell marketing as a profession to teenagers what would your message/value statement be?
If you are looking for a career that allows you to change perspectives and move people to action, then a career in marketing may be for you.
Newest marketing trend to watch:
In my industry the fastest growing trend with our clients is Experiential Marketing. Brands are having a harder time reaching consumers using traditional methods, so they are looking for alternative ways to make connections with their target demographic. Experiential Marketing strategies allow for a one-on-one interaction between the consumer and the brand, which will then allow the true benefits of the product to resonate with the consumer.
First choice for a new career:
I am having too much fun in my career to imagine doing anything else right now.
